Dean's areas of interest include head and neck cancer including skin lesions of the head and neck. He also has interests in endoscopic sinus surgery, sleep and snoring (OSA) surgery, thyroid surgery with benign lumps of the head and neck, and paediatric ENT including grommet and tonsil procedures. 

 

Professional Profile

Dean is a Dunedin based Ear, Nose and Throat surgeon. He graduated from the University of Otago in 1991 and completed Otolaryngology (ORL) Fellowship training in 2000. Dean completed a post graduate fellowship in Head and Neck Oncology Surgery in Adelaide in 2002/3 and has been providing ENT services to Southland and Otago since this time. He is a member of the New Zealand Society of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgeons; the Australian and New Zealand Society of Head and Neck Surgeons; and also the Australian and New Zealand Society of Head and Neck Oncology.

Dean is currently involved in National Registrar training and is the southern representative of the National Training and Education Committee. This involves selection and clinical training of the next generation of ORL surgeons. Dean is an Honorary Lecturer at Otago University and is also involved in surgical anatomy teaching.

Private clinics are available in Dunedin, Invercargill, Queenstown and Alexandra. Dean operates at Mercy Hospital in Dunedin and Southern Cross Hospital in Invercargill. He has Southern Cross Affiliation for ORL and Skin Surgery.
