We've achieved a milestone number of surgeries
Southern Cross Central Lakes Hospital in Queenstown has achieved a significant milestone by performing 4000 surgeries since it opened three years ago.
The hospital, a partnership between Southern Cross Healthcare and Central Lakes Trust, accommodates various specialties, including orthopaedics, ophthalmology, otolaryngology, urology, gynaecology, plastic, and general surgery.
General Manager Tim Capill said that the 4000-surgery milestone, reached earlier this year, underscores the hospital’s proactive approach to meeting the healthcare needs of those in the Central Otago region.
“Four thousand surgeries is more than a number; it is 4000 people who have been treated here in Queenstown, and a reflection of the quality care our team consistently provides,” he says.
“I couldn’t be prouder of our team and the excellence they bring to their work every day. We are making a real difference in our community.”
Capill says the hospital is committed to meeting the evolving healthcare needs of the community, and has broader, positive implications for Central Otago residents.
The joint partnership between Southern Cross Healthcare and the Central Lakes Trust gives a strong focus not only on privately insured or self-paying patients, but also patients referred from public health services.
“Approximately 50 percent of our patients are referred from ACC or Health New Zealand – Te Whatu Ora, meaning we are truly delivering surgical care closer to home for a broad section of the community,” says Capill.
“We provide a local option for elective surgeries, which is great as people previously had to travel to either Dunedin, Invercargill or further afield for surgeries.
“We’re pleased we are able to relieve some of the pressure on health services and ensure local residents can receive the care they need in a timely and more convenient way.”
